Saint Vincent and
The Grenadines
St. Vincent (Bequia)
Bequia is the largest of the Grenadines - a part of the country named Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This relatively small island (7 square miles) off the southern tip of St. Vincent was another stop on our Caribbean Cruise in 2024. On this stop, we had arranged privately to do a 2-tank dive with Dive Bequia - a local shop easily accessed via a small concrete walking path along the waterfront from Port Elizabeth.
The shop is darling and their equipment felt new and in good condition. The staff were all very friendly and both our dive guide and boat captain for the day were all locally born and raised. They took us to 2 different boat-dive sites where we saw sunken ships, lobster, eels, and even a seahorse (a first for us!). We would absolutely recommend this dive shop to anyone thinking about visiting.
Other guests on our dive boat had been staying on Bequia for up to a week for vacation, and said it’s a lovely little island and town. The main street right off the port looked charming with several restaurants and cafes available.
Summary
Though it was a quick stop for us on our cruise, Bequia is an island we would consider returning to, in order to dive again and explore some more. The people here seemed happy and welcoming and with daily auto/passenger ferries running between Bequia and St. Vincent, it would be possible to check out the main island as well, with enough time.
